Mitchell County Hospital District hosted is first ever Health Fair in 2011 and to say it was a success is a vast understatement. Area citizens, Vendors and local businesses were on hand to make it an event to remember. The Health Fair started at 7 a.m. and concluded at 11 a.m. and there were citizens waiting at the doors for the Fair to begin and still coming in after it was over. The Hospital District offered free blood tests and locals could get their flu shot also. Most of the departments in the hospital were on hand with Information Booths. There were several Vendors and Courtesy Booths provided by City National Bank and First National Bank of Colorado City. Valley Fair Lodge and Kristi Lee Manor had booths set up, along with Retirement Centers located in Big Spring. Local pharmacies Perkins and Medicine Place were represented at the Fair.

It is estimated that over 300 area citizens attended the Health Fair and more than 200 flu shots were given. There were more than 100 persons taking advantage of the free lab services given by Mitchell County Hospital.

Vendors provided wonderful door prizes that were given throughout the morning. The response of Vendors and Citizens was so much more than anyone anticipated and MCHD is already looking forward to Health Fair 2012.
