Chip Payne grew up in Slaton, TX. After attending Texas Tech University he enlisted in the US Army and attended the Tri-Service Military Physician Assistant School in San Antonio. He graduated in 1997 and then completed his Masters of Physician Assistant studies in 1999. He continued to serve in the US Army and had three combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired from the Army in 2010, moved back to Lubbock and is currently practicing in Emergency Medicine

Chip is a member of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
